Agran entered the primary as a political unknown, garnering virtually no attention from the media. At one point, however, his support climbed up to 8% in a poll on January 22, 1992, putting him in a three-way tie for third place with Jerry Brown and Tom Harkin.
Agran's candidacy continued to be ignored by the press, eventually leading to a sharp drop in support. He finished the primary with 58,611 votes, or 0.29%, finishing behind all major Democrats and Lyndon LaRouche; his best primary showing was in Idaho, where he received 1.57% of the vote. He earned three delegate votes at the 1992 Democratic National Convention, or 0.07%.
