Boris crosses paths with Mississippi-born runaway Melodie St. Ann Celestine one day when he finds her on his doorstep; initially allowing her to stay the night, Boris ends up sparking a romance with the young woman in spite of differences in their age and level of intellect, a love further complicated by Melodie's family's attempts to track her down.
