REVIEWS

Review by cd (posted on 9-May-2007)

my favorite film, this adaptation of a play by John Guare directed by Australian Fred Schepisi and art directed by the magnificent Patrizia von Brandenstein, it also featured the late Kitty Carlisle Hart in the next to final scene. this story of the fictitious son of actor Sidney Poitier was staged at Lincoln Center with Stockard Channing and Mr Angela Bassett Courtney B. Vance in the lead roles in l991 and then adapted for the screen featuring she and Will Smith, who famously refused to kiss a man and said he regretted that decision later, citing a lack of maturity at age 25. He was to kiss Anthony Michael Hall of "weird science" fame who protests in every interview since that he is straight. the film is basically set in NY apartments and features the little seen indie favorite who showed up at this year's Independent Spirit awards in Hollywood, Mary Beth Hurt, exwife of William Hurt. Although the strange abrupt ending cried out for a sequel, none was ever done, also features a young Heather Graham.
